  • 1 cup Self-Rising Flour For crispy coating.
  • 1 cup Buttermilk Tenderizes chicken.
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil For spritzing before cooking.

  • 1 tablespoon Fresh Herbs (e.g., rosemary) For added aroma.

Preparation

  • Preheat your air fryer to 400°F.
  • In a large zip lock bag, combine self-rising flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Shake well.
  • Season chicken legs with salt and black pepper.
  • Coat each chicken leg in the flour mixture and shake until fully coated.
  • Dip the coated chicken leg into a bowl of buttermilk.
  • Toss the chicken leg back into the flour mixture for a double coating.
  • Let the coated chicken legs rest on a plate for a few minutes.
  • Spritz the coated chicken with olive oil.

Cooking

  • Place chicken legs in the air fryer basket.
  • Cook for about 24 minutes, flipping halfway through.
  • Check that the internal temperature reaches at least 165°F.
  • Let the chicken legs rest for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra crispiness, add cornstarch to the flour mixture. Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket for even cooking. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days and reheated in the air fryer.
