  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 onion, chopped Any onion variety can be used.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adjust quantity based on preference.
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped Any color of bell pepper works.
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes Use canned tomatoes with no added salt if desired.
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni Other pasta shapes can be substituted.
  • 2 cups beef broth Can use low sodium broth.
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust based on personal preference.
  • to taste Grated cheese, optional, for serving Adds creaminess.

Cooking

  • In a large pot, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the onion, garlic, and bell pepper; sauté until softened.
  • Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, macaroni, beef broth, basil, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for about 20 minutes or until the pasta is cooked.
  • Serve hot, topped with grated cheese if desired.

Notes

Best served hot, pairs well with garlic bread or a simple salad. For extra flavor, consider adding red pepper flakes or more veggies.
