Ingredients
  

Main ingredients

  • 4 cups diced potatoes Use fresh or thawed frozen potatoes.
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to substitute with mozzarella or a cheese blend.
  • 2 cups diced ham Turkey ham can be used for a lighter version.
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions Onion can be omitted for less intensity.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter Dotted on top before baking.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a greased casserole dish, layer the diced potatoes, followed by the ham and then the cheese.
  • In a bowl, mix the milk, onions, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the layered ingredients.
  • Dot the top with butter.

Baking

  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 1 hour.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

Great on its own, but pairs well with side salads or crusty bread. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days or frozen for up to 2 months.
