Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 1.5 cups Applesauce Unsweetened homemade applesauce can be used.
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Sugar Can substitute part with honey or maple syrup.
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon For warm flavor.
  • 0.5 teaspoon Ground ginger
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground nutmeg
  • 0.25 teaspoon Ground cloves
  • 0.5 cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 large Eggs Should be at room temperature.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract

For the Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 ounces Cream cheese Softened.
  • 0.5 cup Unsalted butter Softened.
  • 2 cups Powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon For frosting.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract For frosting.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour a 9x13-inch baking pan.

Mixing the Cake Batter

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the applesauce, sugar, and vegetable oil. Whisk until smooth and creamy.
  • Add in the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until fully incorporated.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently without overmixing.

Baking the Cake

  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10-15 minutes.

Preparing the Frosting

  • In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese and softened unsalted butter until smooth.
  • Slowly add in the powdered sugar, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Mix until creamy.

Frosting and Serving

  • Once the cake has cooled completely, spread the cream cheese frosting over the top.
  • Cut into slices and serve. Enjoy!

Notes

Consider adding a handful of nuts or raisins to enhance flavor. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to three days. Refrigerate for longer storage.
