  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar Light or dark brown sugar works.
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable oil Keeps the cake tender.
  • 2 large Eggs Room temperature for best results.
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon Freshly ground preferred.
  • 1/2 tsp Ground ginger Enhances flavor.
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg Freshly grated is ideal.
  • 1/4 tsp Cloves Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 tsp Baking soda Makes the cake rise.
  • 1/2 tsp Salt Balances sweetness.

Frosting

  • To taste Cinnamon cream cheese frosting Mix cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour your cake pan.

Mixing

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, brown sugar, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves.
  • In another bowl, mix together applesauce, vegetable oil, and eggs.
  • Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined.

Baking

  • Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan and level it out.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Cooling and Frosting

  • Once done, cool the cake in the pan for 10-15 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Prepare the cinnamon cream cheese frosting and spread it evenly over the cooled cake.

Serving

  • Slice and serve the cake to family and friends.
  • Enjoy the cake with coffee or tea, and consider adding a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream.

Notes
