Optional additions

  • 1 dash cinnamon Add for warmth, especially in colder months.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar for about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition until creamy.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the butter-sugar mixture, alternating with the milk.
  • Grease a baking dish and pour in your batter, smoothing the top.

Baking

  • Slide the dish into the preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool for about 10-15 minutes.

Serving

  • Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar, fresh berries, or a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

For perfect results, use room temperature butter and do not skip the cooling step. Leftovers can be stored at room temperature for about 2-3 days or refrigerated for up to a week.
