Ingredients

Chicken and Marinade

  • 1 lb chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces Using chicken breasts keeps it lean and juicy.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Adds delightful sweetness that caramelizes beautifully.
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce Provides savory, umami depth.
  • 1/4 cup bourbon Elevates the flavor.
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Essential for aromatic kick.
  • 1 tsp ground ginger Adds subtle warmth and spiciness.
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes Adjust based on your preference for heat.
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil For cooking the chicken.
  • 2 green onions chopped (for garnish) Adds color and brightens flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a bowl, mix together the brown sugar, soy sauce, bourbon, minced garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes. Whisk until the sugar dissolves fully.

Cooking

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the chicken pieces to the skillet once the oil is shimmering. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally until nicely browned.
  • Pour the bourbon sauce over the cooked chicken. Stir gently, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
  • Reduce the heat to medium-low and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes to soak the sauce into the chicken.
  • Remove from heat, sprinkle with chopped green onions, and serve immediately.

Notes

This dish pairs beautifully with steamed rice. For leftovers, store in an airtight container and refrigerate. It tastes even better the next day.
