Main Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef or turkey Choose your preferred meat option.
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook the ground beef (or turkey) and onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  • Stir in the cooked rice, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, beef broth, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

Layering

  • In a large baking dish, layer cabbage leaves and the meat mixture until all ingredients are used, ending with cabbage on top.

Baking

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  • Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is slightly browned.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

To store leftovers, let the casserole cool completely. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap or foil, or transfer it to an airtight container. It can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. If you want to store it for a longer time, you can freeze it for up to 3 months. To separate cabbage leaves easily, blanch the head of cabbage in boiling water for a few minutes. Adjust spices and herbs to taste.
