Ingredients
  

Cabbage and Filling

  • 1 large head large head of cabbage Use a large head for bigger leaves.
  • 1 pound ground beef You can substitute with turkey, pork, or chicken.
  • 1 cup cooked rice Any type of cooked rice works.
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

Seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing.

Sauce and Liquid

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Carefully remove the leaves from the cabbage and blanch them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes until softened.
  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, add onions, and sauté until translucent.
  • In a large bowl, mix ground beef, cooked rice, sautéed onions, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.

Assembling

  • Place a portion of the meat mixture onto a cabbage leaf, fold in the sides, and roll tightly.
  • Place the rolls seam-side down in a baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, combine tomato sauce, water, and lemon juice; pour over the cabbage rolls.

Baking

  • Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  • Uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes. Serve warm.

Notes

Cabbage rolls can be served with a side of bread or a fresh salad. They are great for leftovers and can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or frozen for up to 3 months.
