Ingredients
  

For the base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter Melted for the base.
  • 1 cup brown sugar Adds sweetness and depth.
  • 1 cup rolled oats Provides chewy texture.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Binds ingredients together.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda Helps the bars rise.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances overall flavor.

For the filling

  • 1 cup chocolate chips Semi-sweet or to preference.
  • 1 cup caramel sauce Pre-made or homemade.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Enhances flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, melt the unsalted butter.
  • Once melted, add in the brown sugar and mix until smooth.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the rolled oats, all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Press half of the oat mixture into the bottom of the greased baking dish.

Baking

  • Bake the crust for about 10 minutes.
  • Remove from the oven, sprinkle chocolate chips over the crust, and drizzle the caramel sauce on top.
  • Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the caramel layer.
  • Return to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until golden.
  • Allow to cool before slicing into bars.

Notes

For a richer caramel flavor, use dark brown sugar instead of light. Letting the bars cool makes slicing easier. Consider adding nuts for extra crunch.
