  • 2 slices slices of bread Use your favorite type of bread, such as whole grain or sourdough.
  • 2 large eggs Cook less time if you prefer runny eggs.
  • 2 slices slices of ham Pre-cooked ham can be used.
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese Cheddar or your preferred cheese, variants like mozzarella or pepper jack can be used.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust seasoning as preferred.
  • to taste Butter for toasting Use butter or your preferred oil.

Preparation

  • Preheat a skillet over medium heat and add a little butter.
  • Place the slices of bread in the skillet and toast until golden brown on one side.
  • Flip the bread and add a slice of ham on each slice of bread.
  • Crack an egg onto each slice of ham.
  • Sprinkle cheese over the eggs and season with salt and pepper.
  • Cover the skillet and cook until the eggs are set and the cheese is melted.
  • Serve hot.

Notes

Pairs well with a side of fresh fruit or a simple green salad. Add hot sauce or ketchup for an extra kick. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
