Ingredients
  

For the Meat Sauce

  • 500 g ground beef (or Italian sausage) Choose Italian sausage for a spicier flavor.
  • 1 small onion chopped onion Adds sweetness to the sauce.
  • 3 cloves minced garlic Brings the dish to life.
  • 400 g crushed tomatoes Forms the base of the sauce.
  • 400 g tomato sauce Adds moisture to the sauce.
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste Concentrated flavor.
  • 1 tsp salt & black pepper To taste.
  • 1 tsp dried oregano Essential Italian herb.
  • 1 tsp dried basil Enhances flavor freshness.
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes Optional for added heat.

For the Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese Creates a creamy layer.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Adds gooey goodness.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Adds significant flavor.
  • 1 egg egg Binds the cheese mix.
  • 1/2 tsp salt To season the cheese mixture.
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder Extra flavor.

For Layering and Baking

  • 12 pieces lasagna noodles Cooked. No-boil noodles can be used.
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese For topping.
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley For garnish.

Instructions
 

Prepare the Meat Sauce

  • Heat a large pan over medium heat, add chopped onions and minced garlic, and sauté until soft.
  • Add ground beef (or sausage) and cook until browned.
  • Stir in tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Season with salt, black pepper, oregano, basil, and red pepper flakes.
  • Let the mixture simmer on low heat for about 20 minutes.

Make the Cheese Mixture

  • In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, grated Parmesan, egg, salt, and garlic powder.
  • Mix until well combined.

Layer the Lasagna

  • Spread a thin layer of the meat sauce at the bottom of a baking dish.
  • Add a layer of cooked lasagna noodles followed by a scoop of the cheese mixture. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with sauce on top and remaining mozzarella.

Bake to Perfection

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Cover the lasagna with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for another 10-15 minutes until golden brown.

Let it Rest

  • Allow lasagna to rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Garnish and Serve

  • Sprinkle chopped parsley on top before serving.

Notes

To layer properly, start and finish with sauce. Ensure enough liquid if using no-boil noodles. Pair with a green salad or garlic bread.
