Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather your ingredients and set them out on the counter.
  • Prep all ingredients ahead of time for smoother cooking.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, cooking until fragrant and soft, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the chicken breasts to the skillet. Season with salt and pepper, cooking for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
  • Stir in the mushrooms and cook for another 5 minutes, until softened.
  • Sprinkle flour over the chicken mixture and stir to coat everything.
  • Slowly add the chicken broth, stirring continuously until the sauce thickens, which should take about 5-10 minutes.
  • Lower the heat and mix in the sour cream until smooth.
  • Adjust seasoning with more salt or pepper to taste.
  • Prepare your mashed potatoes or boil egg noodles.
  • Serve the Chicken Stroganoff over your choice of side.

Notes

For extra flair, add a splash of white wine after sautéing the onions. Feel free to mix in peas or carrots for more color and flavor. If the sauce seems too thin, let it simmer a little longer.
