Pudding Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups self-raising flour Ensure it's at room temperature.
  • 0.25 cups cocoa powder Use unsweetened cocoa for best flavor.
  • 1 cups caster sugar Can substitute with granulated sugar.
  • 1.5 cups milk Whole milk is preferred for creaminess.
  • 1.5 cups boiling water Use freshly boiled water.
  • 2 tsp butter, softened Adds richness to the pudding.
  • to taste pure icing sugar For dusting before serving.
  • to serve double cream or ice cream Enhances the dessert experience.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 180 degrees C (350 degrees F).
  • Lightly grease an 8-cup capacity ovenproof bowl or pudding bowl.
  • Sift the self-raising flour and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder into the prepared bowl.
  • Stir in 1/2 cup of caster sugar.
  • Add the milk and stir until the mixture is well combined.

Baking

  • In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 tablespoon of cocoa powder, then sprinkle it over the surface of the pudding mixture.
  • Gently pour boiling water over the back of a large metal spoon to cover the surface of the pudding.
  • Dot the top with softened butter.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 45 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serving

  • Once baked, dust the top with icing sugar and serve it warm with double cream or ice cream.

Notes

Best served warm for an indulgent experience. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to three days.
