Ingredients
  

For the crust

  • 2 1/2 cups All-purpose flour Use cold flour for best texture.
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter, chilled and diced Essential for a flaky crust.

For the apple filling

  • 6-8 pieces Apples, peeled, cored, and sliced About 6 cups total.
  • 3/4 cup Sugar Sweetens the apple filling.
  • 2 tablespoons Lemon juice Adds brightness to the apples.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon A warming spice.
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg Enhances the flavor.

For the crumb topping

  • 3/4 cup Brown sugar Gives a rich sweetness.
  • 1 cup Rolled oats Adds texture to the topping.
  • 1 cup Flour for crumb topping For texture in topping.
  • 1/2 cup Butter, melted Bind the topping ingredients.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups of flour and 1 cup of diced butter. Mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gently stir in 1/4 cup of ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the mixture holds together.
  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface and place it into your pie dish.
  • In a large bowl, toss together your sliced apples with 3/4 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg.

Baking

  • Pour the apple filling into your prepared crust.
  • Make the crumb topping by combining 3/4 cup brown sugar, 1 cup rolled oats, 1 cup flour for topping, and 1/2 cup melted butter. Sprinkle it generously over the apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for another 35-45 minutes.
  • Allow the pie to cool before slicing.

Notes

For perfect results, always use cold butter for the crust. Consider using a mix of apple varieties for flavor complexity. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for a delightful treat.
