Ingredients
  

For the Pie Crust

  • 2.5 cups All-purpose flour For the crust
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Chilled and cubed
  • 3/4 cup Sugar Adds sweetness to the crust

For the Apple Filling

  • 6 cups Apples Peeled and sliced, mix of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp recommended
  • 1 tbsp Lemon juice Prevents browning and enhances flavor
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon Key ingredient for aroma
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar Adds depth of flavor

For the Crumb Topping

  • 1 cup All-purpose flour For topping
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar For sweetness
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter Softened for crumbling

Optional Topping

  • Powdered sugar For dusting

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, and a pinch of salt to make the crust.
  • Cut chilled butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Slowly add ice water, a tablespoon at a time, mixing until the dough comes together.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  • While the dough chills, preheat the oven to 425°F.
  • In a large bowl, toss together sliced apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and lemon juice.
  • Roll out the dough to about 1/8-inch thickness and place it into a 9-inch pie pan.

Assembly and Baking

  • Pour the apple filling into the crust, spreading it evenly.
  • In a separate bowl, mix together flour, brown sugar, and butter for the crumb topping.
  • Sprinkle the crumb topping generously over the apple filling.
  • Place the pie in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes.
  • Lower the oven temperature to 350°F and continue baking for another 30-35 minutes.
  • Let the pie cool for about 30 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. Reheat slices as needed.
