Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Beef patties Use high-quality ground beef for juiciness.
  • 2 medium Onions Sweet, caramelized onions enhance flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Thousand Island dressing Adds tangy flavor to the patty melt.
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese Provides creaminess.
  • 8 slices Bread (rye or sourdough) Choose your preferred bread.
  • 4 tbsp Butter For spreading and grilling.
  • 1 pinch Salt To enhance flavors.
  • 1 tsp Pepper Freshly cracked adds a kick.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Thinly slice the onions and caramelize them in a skillet over medium heat with a bit of butter for 15-20 minutes.
  • Season beef patties with salt and pepper and form them into shaped patties slightly larger than the bread.

Cooking

  • Remove caramelized onions from the skillet. Cook beef patties in the same skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side for medium-rare or longer for well-done.
  • Spread Thousand Island dressing on one slice of bread, place the cooked beef patty on top, add caramelized onions, and top with Swiss cheese.
  • Top with another slice of bread, dress side down, then spread butter on the outside of both slices.
  • Grill the sandwich in the skillet for 3-4 minutes on each side until the bread is golden and cheese is melted.
  • Let cool for a minute, slice in half, and enjoy the gooey cheese!

Notes

For extra crispy bread, use more butter on the outside. You can also add garlic powder to the beef for enhanced flavor. For a spicy twist, add hot sauce to the dressing!
