Meatball Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dried bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper

Cooking Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup shortening For frying meatballs
  • 12 fluid ounces tomato-based chili sauce
  • 1 1/4 cups grape jelly Sweetener and flavor enhancer

Preparation

  • In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped onion, milk, egg, salt, Worcestershire sauce, and ground black pepper. Mix everything well and shape the mixture into small meatballs.

Cooking

  • Heat the shortening in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the meatballs and cook until browned, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  • Remove the meatballs from the skillet and place them on paper towels to drain.
  • In the same skillet, add the chili sauce and grape jelly. Stir until the jelly melts and mixes well with the sauce.
  • Return the meatballs to the skillet and stir them in the sauce until coated.
  • Reduce the heat to low and let them simmer uncovered for 30 minutes.

Notes

Serve your Cocktail Meatballs hot or warm. They pair well with toothpicks for easy serving. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for 3 to 4 days, or freeze for up to 3 months. Reheat before serving.
