Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 ounces dried beef, chopped
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add the flour and stir to form a roux, cooking for 1-2 minutes.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  • Add the chopped dried beef and season with salt and pepper.

Serving

  • Scoop the creamed chipped beef over slices of hot, toasted bread.
  • You can use any type of bread you like, such as white, whole grain, or sourdough.
  • For an extra touch, garnish with a sprinkle of parsley or a dash of paprika.

Notes

For a creamier sauce, use whole milk or half-and-half. If you want to add some flavor, try adding minced garlic or onion to the butter before adding the flour. Adjust the amount of salt according to your taste, since dried beef can be salty already. To store any leftovers, let the creamed chipped beef cool completely, place it in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. The toasted bread can be stored separately to maintain its crispness.
