Cooking the Soup

  • In a large pot, combine the chopped ham, potatoes, onion, carrots, and celery.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce heat and let it simmer until the vegetables are tender, about 20 minutes.
  • Stir in the heavy cream and season with salt and pepper.
  • Simmer for an additional 5 minutes, then serve hot, garnished with thyme or parsley if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding garlic when cooking the onion. You can mix in other vegetables like corn or peas for variety. For a thicker soup, mash some of the potatoes after cooking them.
