Ingredients
  

For the Marinade

  • 1 pound fresh or frozen squid, cleaned and cut Make sure to clean the squid properly before cooking.
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)

For the Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon rice wine or dry sherry (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin Remaining from marinade.
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon five-spice powder (optional)

Garnish and Cooking

  • Chopped green onions For garnish.
  • Sesame seeds (optional) For garnish.
  • Cooking oil For stir-frying.

Instructions
 

Marination

  • Marinate the squid in a bowl with the marinade ingredients for at least 15 minutes.

Cooking

  • Heat oil in a wok or skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Stir-fry the marinated squid for 2-3 minutes until it is cooked through.
  • In the same wok, add the sauce ingredients and stir-fry for about 30 seconds.
  • Add the cooked squid back to the wok. Toss it well to coat with the sauce and stir-fry for another minute.

Garnishing

  • Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Notes

Best served hot. Enjoy it over rice or noodles, or as an appetizer at a dinner party. A side of fresh vegetables or salad can add extra crunch and freshness. Cumin Squid can be kept for up to 2 days in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
