Ingredients

For the Burgers

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 fat ratio) The perfect fat-to-meat ratio ensures juicy, flavorful burgers.
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese This melty goodness takes the flavor to another level.
  • 2 pieces sesame seed buns A classic choice that brings a delightful crunch and extra flavor.
  • 1 tbsp butter For toasting the buns.
  • 1 tbsp salt Essential for bringing out the natural flavors of the meat and fries.
  • 1/2 tbsp black pepper Adds a subtle kick that complements the beef beautifully.

For the Fries

  • 4 large russet potatoes These are the gold standard for fries—crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil Necessary for frying—use enough to make your fries crispy.
  • to taste salt Because who doesn’t love a little extra seasoning on their fries?

Optional Toppings

  • pickles Gives that crunchy bite that pairs perfectly with the rich flavors of the burger.
  • lettuce
  • onion slices
  • ketchup
  • mustard
  • special sauce Your favorite special sauce.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Peel your russet potatoes and cut them into thin sticks. Soak them in cold water for about 30 minutes to help remove the starch.
  • Divide the ground beef into four equal parts and shape them into patties. Season both sides with salt and black pepper.
  • Spread some butter on the cut sides of the buns and set aside for toasting.

Cooking the Fries

  • Option 1 (Oven): Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Toss the soaked and drained fries in vegetable oil and spread them on a baking sheet. Bake for about 30 minutes, flipping them halfway.
  • Option 2 (Deep Fry): Heat the oil to about 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer. Fry the potatoes until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.
  • Once cooked, sprinkle the fries with salt immediately.

Cooking the Burgers

  • Cook the patties on a skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side. During the last minute, add a slice of cheddar cheese to two of the patties.

Toasting the Buns

  • Toast the buttered buns on the same skillet or grill until golden brown.

Assembling the Burgers

  • Start with one toasted bun, place one cheeseburger patty on it, add another patty if desired, and layer with optional toppings. Top with the second bun.

Serving

  • Arrange the burgers on a plate beside a generous serving of crispy fries. Add ketchup or dipping sauce as desired.

Notes

For perfect results, use an instant-read thermometer to check burgers for doneness (aim for about 160°F). For crispier fries, double-fry them.
