  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs

Cream Cheese Mixture

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 1 cup chopped nuts (e.g., pecans or walnuts) Feel free to customize with your favorite nuts.
  • 1 cup chocolate chips You can use dark or milk chocolate chips.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, mix together the chocolate cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs until well combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  • In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until smooth.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture over the cake batter, then use a knife to swirl it together gently.
  • Sprinkle chopped nuts and chocolate chips on top of the batter.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Serve Earthquake Cake warm or at room temperature, optionally topped with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream. Store leftovers covered at room temperature for 2-3 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap for best storage. You can also freeze the cake for up to three months.
