Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 box German chocolate cake mix
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened Ensure cream cheese is softened for easier mixing
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup chocolate chips Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best flavor

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan and sprinkle the chopped nuts evenly across the bottom.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, eggs, water, and oil, and mix until well combined. Pour the batter over the nuts in the pan.
  • In another bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together until smooth. Drop spoonfuls of the cream cheese mixture onto the batter.
  • Sprinkle chocolate chips over the top.
  • Use a knife to swirl the cream cheese mixture into the batter gently.

Baking

  • Bake for 40-50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Serve at room temperature, cut into squares. For extra taste, add ice cream or whipped cream on top. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week. Allow to come to room temperature before serving again.
