Ingredients
  

For the Baklava

  • 1 package phyllo dough Keep covered with a damp cloth to prevent drying out.
  • 1 cup melted butter Brush generously on phyllo layers.
  • 2 cups finely chopped walnuts or pistachios Choose your favorite nuts.
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • to taste none Honey Optional for drizzling before serving.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a baking dish with butter.
  • Layer half of the phyllo dough sheets in the dish, brushing each sheet with melted butter.
  • Spread the chopped nuts evenly over the phyllo layers.
  • Layer the remaining phyllo sheets on top, again brushing each with melted butter.
  • Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.

Baking

  • Bake for about 50 minutes or until golden brown.

Syrup Preparation

  • While baking, combine sugar, water, vanilla, and cinnamon in a saucepan.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Pour the syrup over the hot baklava right after it comes out of the oven.

Serving

  • Let it cool and soak before serving. Optionally, drizzle with honey before serving.

Notes

Store Easy Baklava in an airtight container at room temperature for about one week. If you want to keep it longer, refrigerate for up to two weeks. Let it come back to room temperature before serving. Be careful with phyllo dough as it can dry out quickly, and feel free to adjust nuts and spices according to your taste.
