Ingredients

Danish Pastry Base

  • 1 sheet Puff Pastry (thawed)

Cheese Filling

  • 1 cup Cream Cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice (optional)

Toppings

  • 1 each Egg (for egg wash)
  • 1/4 cup Fruit Preserves (for topping, optional)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F.
  • Roll out the puff pastry on a lightly floured surface.
  • Cut the pastry into squares, about 4x4 inches each.
  • In a bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add lemon juice if using.

Assembly

  • Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry square.
  • Fold the corners of the pastry squares toward the center and pinch to seal or leave open.
  • In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the edges of the pastries.

Baking

  • Place the assembled danishes on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake them in the preheated oven for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and puffy.

Serving

  • Once baked and slightly cooled, top each cheese danish with a dollop of fruit preserves if desired.
  • Allow the danishes to cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Serve and enjoy with coffee or tea.

Notes

For best results, ensure puff pastry is fully thawed. Experiment with flavors by adding cinnamon or different fruit preserves. These are best enjoyed warm and can be paired with a fruit salad or oatmeal.
