For the Bars

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs Use room temperature for best mixing results.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp almond extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cans (21 oz each) cherry pie filling

For the Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 2-3 tbsp whole milk Add more for a thinner glaze.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, and salt until light and fluffy.
  • Add the eggs, vanilla extract, and almond extract; mix until smooth.
  • Gradually add the flour while mixing until well combined.
  • Spread 2 cups of the dough into a greased 15x10-inch pan, ensuring the layer is even.
  • Pour the cherry pie filling over the dough, spreading evenly.
  • Drop the remaining dough by teaspoonfuls over the cherry filling.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 35-40 minutes, or until the bars are golden brown.
  • Allow the bars to cool completely before drizzling with the glaze made from powdered sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and milk.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature butter and eggs. Consider adding chopped nuts for crunch or additional almond extract for enhanced flavor. You can switch out the cherry pie filling for other flavors like blueberry or peach to create unique bars.
