Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 1/4 cups brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Mix-ins

  • 2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans Optional

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the melted butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  • Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts if you’re using them.

Baking

  • Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Let the bars cool in the pan before slicing them into pieces. Enjoy them warm or at room temperature!

Notes

Make sure not to overmix the batter once you add the dry ingredients to keep the bars tender. You can customize by adding dried fruits, shredded coconut, or different nuts.
