Ingredients
  

For the Fish

  • 1 1/4 lbs boneless, skinless cod fillets Cod is a wonderful fish with a mild flavor that pairs perfectly with creamy sauces. Can substitute with haddock or tilapia.
  • 1/2 tsp salt, divided Brings out the natural flavors of the fish.
  • 1/2 tsp ground black pepper, divided Adds another layer of flavor.
  • 1 tbsp olive oil Helps to create a lovely crust on the fish.
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter Adds richness; can use butter substitute.

For the Sauce

  • 1 clove minced garlic Adds aroma and depth of flavor.
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (35% milk fat) Makes the sauce luscious and creamy.
  • 1/3 cup vegetable or seafood broth Creates a well-rounded flavor.
  • 1.5 tbsp fresh chopped dill (or 1-1.5 tsp dried) Adds fresh, aromatic quality.
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice Brightens up the dish.
  • 1 tsp lemon zest Adds a fragrant citrus note.
  • optional lemon wedges for serving For added freshness when serving.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Start by drying your cod fillets with a paper towel.
  • Sprinkle half of the salt and pepper on both sides of the fish.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and unsalted butter over medium heat.
  • Once the butter begins to froth, add the seasoned cod fillets.
  • Cook the fish for about 3 to 5 minutes on each side until light golden brown.
  • Transfer the cooked fillets to a plate and set aside.
  • In the same pan, add the minced garlic and sauté for about a minute until fragrant.
  • Pour in the heavy cream and broth, stirring gently. Let it simmer for about 4 to 5 minutes.
  • Add the fresh chopped dill, lemon juice, and lemon zest into the sauce, stirring well.
  • Carefully return the cooked fish to the skillet, spooning sauce over the fillets and cooking together for just a minute.

Serving

  • Serve the Fish with Cream Sauce with a slice of lemon and a sprinkle of fresh dill on top.

Notes

For crispy fish, pat fillets dry before seasoning. Serve with fluffy rice, creamy mashed potatoes, or steamed vegetables for a complete meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two days.
