Ingredients

Burger Components

  • 6 pieces hamburger buns, split
  • 2 pounds ground beef Ensure well-seasoned for extra flavor.
  • 12 slices havarti cheese Can substitute with Swiss or cheddar.
  • 6 tablespoons mayonnaise Spread on buns before assembling the burgers.

Sautéed Mixture

  • 1/4 cup butter For sautéing the onions and mushrooms.
  • 8 ounces sliced mushrooms
  • 2 pieces onions, thinly sliced Sauté until sweet and caramelized.
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper To taste.

Seasoning

  • 1 ounce packet dry onion soup mix For mixing with ground beef.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat a large skillet over medium heat. Place hamburger bun halves cut sides down in the hot skillet until they are lightly toasted, about 2 to 3 minutes. Remove buns and set aside on a plate.
  • Preheat your outdoor grill to medium heat. In a large saucepan on the grill, melt the butter.

Cooking

  • Add the sliced mushrooms and onions to the saucepan, season with salt and pepper, and cook, stirring, until the mushrooms are lightly browned, about 20 minutes.
  • While the vegetables are cooking, mix the ground beef with the onion soup mix in a bowl and form into 6 hamburger patties.
  • Lightly oil the grill grates and grill the burgers for about 5 minutes on one side. Flip and continue grilling until they reach your desired doneness, ensuring the center reads 180°F (82°C) for fully cooked patties.
  • Remove the burgers from the grill and let them rest for about 5 minutes.

Assembly

  • Spread 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise on each toasted bun, then assemble the burgers by placing the patties and dividing the mushroom and onion mixture on top.

Notes

For added flavor, try using fresh ingredients and don’t rush the sautéing process. If you have leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
