Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 3-4 medium Medium apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala) Firm varieties are best to maintain texture.
  • 2-3 tablespoons Butter or coconut oil Use butter for best flavor, coconut oil for a healthier option.
  • 1/4 cup Granulated sugar (or brown sugar/maple syrup) Adjust sweetness according to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon Add more to taste if you're a cinnamon lover.
  • 1 pinch Salt Enhances the flavors.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract Adds a lovely flavor.
  • 1 squeeze Lemon juice Prevents apples from browning.
  • 1 tiny sprinkle Nutmeg (optional) For additional spice.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash, core, and slice the apples about 1/4 inch thick. You can leave the peels on for texture.
  • Toss apple slices with a little lemon juice if not cooking immediately.

Cooking

  • Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add butter or oil and melt completely.
  • Once the butter is bubbling, sprinkle in half the sugar and cinnamon, letting it dissolve for 30 seconds.
  • Add apple slices in a single layer and cook undisturbed for 2-3 minutes until bottoms are caramelized.
  • Flip each slice, sprinkle with remaining sugar and cinnamon, and cook for another 2-3 minutes until tender.

Notes

Serve with yogurt for breakfast, alongside pork as a side, or with ice cream for dessert. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
