  • 2 pieces eggs Fresh eggs will give you that beautiful, rich flavor and golden color.
  • 2 slices bread Any type you prefer! Whole grain, sourdough, or white bread work well.
  • 1 slice American cheese Feel free to swap it for your favorite cheese.
  • 2 slices smoked ham Turkey or crispy bacon can be used as alternatives.
  • 1 tbsp butter Essential for frying the eggs and grilling the sandwich.

Preparation

  • Gather your ingredients to ensure you have everything you need.
  • Prepare a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a generous pat of butter, melting until bubbling but not browned.

Cooking

  • Crack the eggs into the pan, being careful not to break the yolks.
  • Cook the eggs until the whites are fully set but the yolks remain runny, covering with a lid if you prefer more cooked yolks.
  • While the eggs are cooking, butter one side of each slice of bread.
  • Once the eggs are done, remove them and set aside. In the same pan, place one slice of bread butter-side down, top with cheese, ham, and then the eggs.
  • Place the second slice of bread on top, butter-side up, creating a sandwich.
  • Grill the sandwich for about 3-4 minutes on each side until crispy and the cheese is gooey.
  • Slice the sandwich in half and serve.

Notes

Add fresh herbs like chives or parsley for extra flavor. Pair with hash browns or a fresh fruit salad for a complete meal. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to two days and reheat in the skillet.
