Ingredients
  

Main ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined Make sure the shrimp are fresh.
  • 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets Don't overcook; keep bright green and slightly crunchy.
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced Adjust amount to taste.
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce Use tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce (optional) Can be omitted if not available.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sesame seeds for garnish (optional) Adds a nice touch.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Prepare the shrimp by peeling and deveining them. Set aside.
  • Cut the broccoli into florets, wash and set aside.

Cooking

  • Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  • Add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until pink and cooked through. Remove from skillet and set aside.
  • Add the garlic to the skillet and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
  • Add the broccoli florets and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until tender-crisp.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), cornstarch, and water until smooth.
  • Pour the sauce over the broccoli and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
  • Add the cooked shrimp back to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds (optional) and serve hot.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. Reheat in a skillet or microwave until hot. This recipe can also be made with chicken instead of shrimp.
