For the Filling

  • 0.5 cups softened cream cheese Creates a delightful creamy filling.
  • 0.25 cups powdered sugar Adds sweetness to the filling.
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract Brings flavor to the filling.

For the Glaze

  • 1 cups powdered sugar Used for the glaze on top.
  • 2 tbsp milk Helps achieve the right glaze consistency.
  • 0.25 tsp vanilla extract Adds depth of flavor to the glaze.

Preparation

  • Combine the warm milk, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast in a bowl, then let it sit for about 5 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg; mix until it forms a soft dough.
  • Sprinkle flour on your countertop and knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Filling and Shaping

  • In a separate bowl, combine softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract; beat until smooth and creamy.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it into a large rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over the dough.
  • Roll the dough tightly from one end to the other, place seam-side down, and slice into about 12 pieces.
  • Form each slice into a spiral shape on a baking tray and let them rise for another 20 minutes.

Baking

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  • Prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the warm pastries after baking.

Notes

Avoid overworking the dough to keep it flaky. Ensure the milk is warm but not hot for best yeast activation. Give pastries space on the baking tray as they expand while baking.
