Ingredients
  

Vegetables

  • 2 heads broccoli, cut into florets Use fresh broccoli for the best flavor.
  • 1 head cauliflower, cut into florets Fresh cauliflower works best.
  • 1 medium carrot, shredded Adds a nice crunch.
  • 1/4 medium red onion, minced Use more or less to taste.

For the Dressing

  • 1 cup mayonnaise You can add more for a creamier salad.
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper sauce Adjust for desired spice level.
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste ground black pepper

Bacon

  • 5 slices cooked and crumbled bacon Adds a savory flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  • Add the broccoli and cauliflower florets to the boiling water. Cook for 3 minutes.
  • Drain the florets and transfer them to a bowl of ice water to cool.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, red wine vinegar, cayenne pepper sauce, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper to make the dressing.
  • Remove the florets from the ice water and place them on paper towels to dry.
  • When you are ready to serve, transfer the florets to a large bowl.
  • Mix in the shredded carrot, minced onion, and crumbled bacon.
  • Pour the dressing over the salad and toss until everything is well combined.
  • Let the salad rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

You can serve this as a side dish, picnic item, or potluck dish. Serve chilled for the best taste. For variations, add bell peppers or use Greek yogurt instead of mayonnaise.
