Ingredients
  

Potatoes and Cheese

  • 4 large russet potatoes Thinly sliced
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese Grated
  • 1 cup Gouda cheese Grated

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons butter For sautéing garlic
  • 2 cloves garlic Minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper

Optional Topping

  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs Optional for added texture

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Thinly slice the russet potatoes and set aside.

Cooking

  • In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat and sauté minced garlic until fragrant.
  • Add heavy cream, salt, and pepper, and bring to a simmer.
  • Stir in grated sharp cheddar and Gouda cheese until melted and smooth.
  • Layer half of the potato slices in a baking dish. Pour half of the cheese sauce over the potatoes. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
  • If desired, top with bread crumbs for added texture.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra creaminess, use a mix of different cheeses. Make sure to slice the potatoes thinly and evenly for even cooking. If you like a crispy top, broil the dish for a few minutes after baking. Feel free to add herbs like thyme or rosemary for extra flavor.
