  • 2 cups Egg noodles
  • 4 slices Bacon, chopped Thick-cut bacon preferred for richer flavor.
  • 1 small head Cabbage, chopped Fresh cabbage for best flavor.
  • 1 Onion, sliced Use a sweet onion for a milder flavor.
  • to taste Salt and pepper Adjust according to preference.
  • as needed Butter or oil for cooking Butter adds a nice richness.

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients together before you start cooking.
  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the egg noodles according to package instructions until al dente.
  • Drain the noodles and set aside, preserving the starch for later.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the chopped bacon until crispy, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Add the sliced onion to the skillet and cook until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • Stir in the chopped cabbage and cook until tender, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Add the cooked noodles to the skillet and mix everything together to combine.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes

Haluski is perfect on its own but can also be served with a salad or homemade bread. Leftovers can be stored in the fridge and reheated gently.
