Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt

Main Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup diced cooked ham
  • 1.75 cups buttermilk
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter, melted

Optional Garnish

  • chopped chives or parsley For garnish, if desired.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat Oven: Set oven to 450°F (230°C). Pour melted butter into a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • Mix Dough: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Stir in cheese and ham. Add buttermilk and mix until just combined (the batter will be thick).

Baking

  • Pour the biscuit dough into the buttery dish, spreading it evenly. Use a knife to score the top into 9 squares.
  • Bake for 25-28 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.

Serving

  • Cool slightly before cutting. Garnish with chopped chives if desired and serve warm.

Notes

Make sure your butter is hot when you pour it into the baking dish for the best results. Do not overmix the dough; mix just until combined for light and fluffy biscuits. Feel free to add your favorite herbs or spices for an extra kick of flavor.
