Ingredients
  

Main ingredients

  • 1 pound Ham steak Diced for the soup.
  • 2 cans Canned white beans Rinsed and drained.
  • 1 large Onion Chopped.
  • 2 medium Carrots Chopped.
  • 2 stalks Celery Chopped.
  • 3 cloves Garlic Minced.

Spices and seasonings

  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme Or 1 tablespoon fresh thyme.
  • 1 bay leaf Bay leaf

Liquid

  • 4 cups Chicken broth Or vegetable stock for a lighter flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Chop your onions, carrots, celery, and garlic.
  • Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped vegetables and sauté until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

Cooking

  • Add the diced ham steak to the pot and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the canned white beans and add enough chicken broth to cover the mixture.
  • Season with salt, pepper, thyme, and bay leaf. Stir well.
  • Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 30 minutes.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning as necessary before serving.

Notes

This soup is perfect with crusty bread or a simple salad. Feel free to add fresh herbs for extra flavor.
