  • 4 cups tart apples, sliced Granny Smith or a mix of apples like Fuji or Honeycrisp work well.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar For sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Adds warm spice.

For the Oat Topping

  • 1 cup rolled oats Creates a crunchy topping.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar For depth of sweetness.
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted For binding the topping.
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, toss the sliced tart apples with granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
  • Pour the apple mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  • In another bowl, combine rolled oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, melted unsalted butter, and salt. Mix until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 to 40 minutes, until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Serve warm, ideally with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a splash of lemon juice to the apples or fold in some chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans into the oat mixture. Consider sprinkling a bit of nutmeg with the cinnamon for a richer flavor.
