  • 2 cups fresh or canned cherries, pitted
  • 1 cup sugar divided
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a bowl, mix the cherries with 1/2 cup of sugar and set aside.
  • In another bowl, whisk together the melted butter, remaining sugar, flour, milk, baking powder, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth.
  • Pour the batter into a greased baking dish.
  • Spoon the cherries and their juices over the batter.

Baking

  • Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Layered Cherry Cobbler is best served warm. Serve plain or with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven or microwave.
