Ingredients
  

Cherry Mixture

  • 2 cups fresh or canned cherries, pitted If using canned cherries, drain well to avoid excess liquid.
  • 1 cup granulated sugar Adjust sugar depending on the sweetness of the cherries.
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Batter

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can be substituted with gluten-free flour.
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine cherries, sugar, cornstarch, and vanilla extract. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir in milk and melted butter until just combined.
  • Pour the batter evenly over the cherry mixture.

Baking

  • Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the cherries are bubbling.

Serving

  • Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, use the microwave or oven.
