Preparation

  • Peel the sweet potatoes, removing the tough skin.
  • Cut the sweet potatoes into uniform chunks.

Cooking

  • Place sweet potato chunks in a pot with cold water and a pinch of salt.
  • Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce to medium-low and cook until fork-tender, about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Drain the sweet potatoes in a colander and return them to the pot to let any remaining moisture evaporate.

Mixing

  • Add butter, vanilla extract, and maple syrup to the drained sweet potatoes.
  • Mash until smooth and creamy, adjusting texture as desired.

Serving

  • Season the mash with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Serve warm, optionally drizzling with extra maple syrup.
