Ingredients
  

For the Meatballs

  • 1 lb ground beef Preferably 80/20 for optimal flavor and juiciness.
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Can be store-bought or homemade from stale bread.
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese Adds depth of flavor to the meatballs.
  • 1 large egg Acts as a binder for the meatballs.
  • 2 cloves garlic Minced; adjust to taste.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning Brings Mediterranean flavors to the dish.
  • Salt and pepper To taste.

For the Sub

  • 1 jar marinara sauce Store-bought or homemade.
  • 4 rolls sub rolls Italian rolls recommended.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese For topping the subs.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  • Form the mixture into small meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter.
  • Place the meatballs on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake for 20-25 minutes until browned and cooked through.

Cooking

  • While the meatballs are baking, warm the marinara sauce in a saucepan over low heat.
  • Once the meatballs are cooked, transfer them to the saucepan with the marinara sauce and gently toss to coat.
  • Slice the sub rolls open to create pockets for the meatballs.
  • Ladle the meatballs and sauce into the rolls, then top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  • Return the assembled subs to the oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Allow to cool for a minute before slicing and serving.

Notes

Don’t overmix the meatball ingredients. You can add red pepper flakes for heat or experiment with different cheeses for variation. Serve with a side salad or fries for a complete meal.
