Ingredients

For the Meatballs

  • 1 pound lean ground beef 5 ounces
  • 1 large egg lightly beaten
  • 7 tablespoons Italian seasoned bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 small red onion grated
  • 4 teaspoons garlic paste
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon red chili flakes optional

For Assembly

  • 24 cubes mozzarella cheese 1-inch cubes
  • 1 can pizza crust dough (124 ounce)
  • 5 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon garlic paste
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 cup marinara sauce or as needed for dipping
  • 12 pieces wooden skewers (3 to 4 inches long)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Soak the skewers in water to keep them from burning later. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup.
  • In a large bowl, mix the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, grated onion, garlic paste, salt, oregano, parsley, basil, and chili flakes until everything is well combined.
  • Take about 1 ounce of the mixture and wrap it around each mozzarella cube, sealing it tightly. Place each meatball on the prepared pan and keep going until all the mixture is used.

Assembly

  • Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface and cut it into 12 strips.
  • Grab 2 meatballs and wrap one strip of dough around them, alternately, to make an S shape. Push a skewer through the meatball and dough, twisting it slightly as you go to make sure everything sticks.

Baking

  • In another bowl, mix melted butter, garlic paste, and fresh parsley. Brush this tasty mixture over the dough.
  • Bake in the hot oven until golden brown for about 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping. They are best enjoyed right out of the oven!

Notes

Make sure to soak the skewers to prevent burning. Feel free to add your favorite spices or herbs to the meatball mixture for extra flavor. If you love a bit of heat, don’t skip the red chili flakes as they add a nice kick.
