  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar Helps stabilize egg whites; substitute with lemon juice if necessary.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Ensure your mixing bowl is clean and dry.

Whipping the Egg Whites

  • In a clean bowl, whip the egg whites and cream of tartar on medium speed until soft peaks form.

Adding Sugar

  • Gradually add the granulated sugar, about a tablespoon at a time, while continuing to whip.

Achieving Stiff Peaks

  • Continue whipping until stiff peaks form and the mixture feels smooth.

Piping Meringue

  • Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fitted with a star tip or cut the corner off a zip-top bag.

Creating Christmas Trees

  • Pipe the meringue into the shape of Christmas trees, starting with a base and adding smaller layers.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for about 1.5 to 2 hours, keeping a close eye during the last half hour.

Cooling and Decorating

  • Once baked, let the meringue trees cool completely on the baking sheet.
  • Decorate with edible glitter, sprinkles, or icing after cooling.

Notes

Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. Meringues can be used in desserts or crumbled over ice cream.
