Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients for the stew.
  • In a large Dutch oven, heat oil over medium heat and brown the stew meat.
  • Chop the potatoes, carrots, and green beans while the meat is browning.
  • Add the chopped vegetables to the browned meat and stir them together.
  • Season the mixture with Italian spices, salt, and pepper.
  • Pour in the beef broth or water to cover all ingredients.
  • Bring the stew to a gentle boil.
  • Reduce the heat and let it simmer for about an hour.
  • Check for the tenderness of the meat after simmering.
  • Ladle the stew into bowls and serve with cornbread or biscuits.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of red wine to the broth. Leftovers taste even better the next day and can be frozen for future meals.
