  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter, room temperature Adds richness and a melt-in-your-mouth quality.
  • 0.75 cup packed light brown sugar Gives a lovely caramel flavor.
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature Provides moisture and binds the ingredients.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Elevates every flavor.
  • 2 cups quick-cooking oats Lends delightful chewiness.
  • 1 cup raisins Adds a burst of flavor.

For the frosting

  • 0.5 cup unsalted butter, room temperature Makes the frosting creamy and rich.
  • 1.5 cups powdered sugar Provides sweetness and smooth texture.
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup Adds depth to the frosting.
  • 1-2 tablespoons heavy cream, room temperature Helps create a spreadable consistency.
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon Adds a hint of cinnamon to the frosting.
  • 0.25 teaspoon maple extract (optional) Great for extra maple flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan with baking spray or butter, then line it with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the room temperature butter and light brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Fold in the oats and raisins using a rubber spatula.
  • Press the dough evenly into your prepared baking pan.

Baking

  • Pop the pan into your preheated oven and bake for about 18 to 20 minutes until the edges are golden brown.
  • Allow the bars to cool in the pan for about 5 to 10 minutes, then lift them out with the parchment paper to cool completely on a wire rack.

Frosting

  • While the bars cool, beat the room temperature butter until smooth and lump-free.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, mixing until combined, then stir in the maple syrup, heavy cream, cinnamon, and optional maple extract.
  • Spread the frosting evenly over the cooled bars.

Serving

  • Cut the bars into squares, serve, and enjoy!

Notes

For perfect results, use room temperature ingredients, and allow the bars to cool completely before frosting to prevent melting. Pairs well with milk, tea, or ice cream. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate for a week. Freezable for up to three months.
