Ingredients

For the frosting

  • 5 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a saucepan, whisk flour and milk over medium heat. Cook until thick like pudding, whisking constantly (about 5–7 minutes). Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  • In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy (about 5 minutes).
  • Gradually add the cooled flour and milk mixture to the butter mixture, beating until smooth and fluffy.
  • Add vanilla extract and a pinch of salt, and beat again until it resembles whipped cream.
  • Frost your cooled cake or cupcakes. Store any leftovers in the fridge and let come to room temperature before using again.

Notes

Store any leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Bring it back to room temperature before using again. Whip lightly to refresh the texture if needed.
