Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef Can substitute with ground turkey, chicken, or sausage.
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter For sautéing the onions.
  • 2 tbsp flour Use gluten-free flour blend for a gluten-free option.
  • 1.5 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups cooked white rice Can substitute with brown rice for a healthier alternative.
  • Dried parsley (for garnish)

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef until browned. Drain excess fat and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onions until soft and golden, about 8–10 minutes.
  • Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a simmer until thickened.
  • Return ground beef to the pan and simmer in the gravy for 5 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Spoon over warm cooked rice and garnish with parsley.

Notes

You can serve the casserole directly from the skillet for a family-style meal. It pairs well with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables. For extra flavor, add garlic to the onions while they are sautéing. If you like a little heat, add crushed red pepper flakes or hot sauce to the gravy.
